The size and depth of the cracks depend on numerous factors, including the thickness of the applied coat, the support and drying conditions. It has a consistency similar to cake icing, easily manipulated by a palette knife. Peaks will maintain their height and appearance as the surface remains absorbent. Colours can be mixed with the paste or applied directly on the crackled surface. Do not force dry Crackle Paste, nor try to slow the drying by adding Retarder or other additives, as both conditions may interfere with the products ability to crack. It is designed to be mixed with any acrylic colour, but may make it paler depending on the quantity added. Of thick consistency and of matte and opaque rendering, Liquitex light modeling paste dries slowly and results in a very hard surface. It may be worked with an artist’s knife when wet, sanded, sculpted and painted once dry. It can be mixed with other textured gels and mediums to create a range of textures.
