Gallery frame vs. regular frame
A gallery frame is generally deeper and thicker than a regular frame. It allows you to frame a gallery-wrapped or regular canvas without the canvas extending beyond the back of the frame. A gallery photo frame with glass is also deeper, creating a more dimensional look when displayed on the wall.

What is a floating frame?
As its name suggests, a floating frame is designed so that the artwork appears to float inside the frame rather than being pressed behind a piece of glass. This creates a sense of depth and a three-dimensional presentation.

Floating frames are especially suited for stretched canvases. Unlike standard frames, floating frames are loaded from the front: the canvas is placed into the frame and secured from the back. This allows the edges of the artwork to remain visible without being covered by the frame. For a true gallery-style presentation, a floating frame is an ideal choice.

What is a mat?
A mat is a piece of board, usually with a central opening, that creates space between the artwork and the frame. It is suitable only for paper-based artwork, such as photos, drawings, and prints, and is not intended for canvases.

When a mat is used, glass is generally added to protect both the artwork and the mat. When you see the terms “acid-free” or “conservation,” it means the mat is archival quality and helps protect the artwork by preventing discoloration, yellowing, or deterioration over time.

These frames are designed for standard-profile canvases. The regular floater frame is made to accommodate a standard-profile canvas without the canvas extending beyond the front of the frame. Its versatile design complements any décor, whether at home, in the office, or even in your studio. Locally made with a commitment to responsible manufacturing by DeSerres.

Gallery Frame vs. Regular Frame
A gallery frame is generally deeper and thicker than a regular frame. It is designed to accommodate both gallery-profile and standard-profile canvases without the canvas extending beyond the back of the frame. The gallery picture frame with glass is also deeper, creating a more pronounced, dimensional look on the wall.

What Is a Floater Frame?
As the name suggests, a floater frame is designed to make the artwork appear as though it is floating within the frame rather than being pressed behind a sheet of glass. This creates an attractive three-dimensional sense of depth. Floater frames are especially well suited for stretched canvases.

Unlike traditional frames, floater frames are front-loading: the canvas is inserted from the front and secured from the back. This design allows the entire edge of the artwork to remain visible, with no portion hidden by the frame.

If you're looking for a gallery-style presentation for your canvas, a floater frame is an excellent choice.
